OVERVIEW
This 10-day Romanian Jewish heritage tour offers a comprehensive exploration of Jewish history and culture across the country. The first six days of this North Romania Jewish heritage tour focuses on the regions outside of Bucharest, beginning in Cluj and traveling to Sighet, Satu Mare, and Ordea. Participants will visit significant sites such as the Elie Wiesel Museum, the Holocaust Museum in Sighet, historic synagogues, and Jewish cemeteries, gaining insights into the vibrant pre-war Jewish communities and the tragic events of the Holocaust. Cultural immersion is also a key aspect, with experiences like a pottery workshop, klezmer music performances, and a Shabbat dinner with the local community in Cluj.
The subsequent four days are dedicated to Bucharest, delving into the capital’s rich Jewish tour in Romania. Highlights include tours of the Jewish Quarter and the Choral Temple, visits to the Jewish Museum and the Holocaust Memorial, and a briefing with the Israeli Ambassador. The itinerary also incorporates broader Romanian culture with a visit to the Palace of Parliament and traditional dining experiences. This portion of the trip aims to provide a deeper understanding of contemporary Jewish life in Romania and its historical context, culminating in a farewell before departure.

Cluj to Sighet: Our adventure begins in Cluj, where we embark on a scenic
journey to Sighet. Along the way, we stop at Baia Sprie, a charming village
renowned for its pottery. Here, a world-class potter unveils the secrets of their
craft, guiding us in creating our own personalized pieces – a memento to
cherish long after the trip. We savor a delicious lunch amidst the tranquil rural
setting before continuing our voyage to Sighet.
Sighet Arrival: Upon arrival in Sighet, a poignant visit awaits us at the train
station. We pay our respects to the thousands of Jews deported from this very
spot to concentration camps during the Holocaust. A somber yet significant
tribute to remember.
Welcome Dinner: After settling into our hotel, we join a special opening dinner
with a distinguished guest – the Curator of the Sighet Jewish Museum. This
insightful evening offers a captivating introduction to Sighet’s rich Jewish
heritage.
A Day of Discovery: We delve into the heart of Sighet’s Jewish past. We pay
homage to the life and legacy of Nobel laureate Elie Wiesel at his former

Cluj Unveiled: After a satisfying breakfast, we embark on a captivating walking
tour of Cluj, specifically focusing on its Jewish heritage tour elements.

Oasis of Tranquillity: In the afternoon, we find solace and beauty at the
Alexandru Borza Botanical Garden, Cluj’s crown jewel. Explore over 14
